From 24 to 28 October 2022, the first meeting of the CCLME Working Group on Ecosystem Planning and Analysis (GT-PAE CCLME) was held at the Fleur de Lys Hotel in Dakar (Senegal). For four days, some twenty experts from partner organisations active in the management of the Large Canary Ecosystem exchanged views to identify priority scientific activities to be taken into account in the implementation of the CCLME's Strategic Action Programme (SAP) while making recommendations for the implementation of the action plan.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Mauritanian Institute of Oceanographic Research and Fisheries (IMROP) are holding, from 27 to 28 July 2022, in Nouadhibou, a national consultation for the implementation of the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) of the project "Towards the Sustainable Management of the Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME)".
Small pelagic symposium

The Mauritanian Institute for research in oceanography and fisheries (IMROP) organized a symposium on small pelagic fish in North West Africa from 24th to 26 May 2022 at the “Palais de Congrès” in Nouakchott. The event benefitted from the technical and financial support of FAO (Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem, EAF-Nansen Programme, NFISR); it was well attended, in-person and virtually, by researchers, fishing industry, policy makers from Mauritania, Senegal, Morocco, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Spain, Germany and Russia.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Guinean Ministries of Fisheries and Maritime Economy and Environment, organized from 04 to 05 May 2022, in the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries, a national consultation meeting in the scope of the GCP/INT/985/GFF project - " Towards sustainable management of the Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem– initial support to SAP implementation (CCLME)”.

From March 22-23, 2022, the CCLME National Stakeholder Consultation Meeting was held in Morocco. This activity is part of the implementation of activities on the Consortium and Partnership Agreement to support the implementation of the CCLME Strategic Action Program (SAP).

Among the first activities to be carried out in this transitional phase of the CCLME project is the organisation of the first national consultations on the proposed multi-sector consortium and partnership agreement in each country covered by the project at the project launch of the current project phase in November 2021. These consultative meetings will serve to review the governance framework for the proposed cross-sectoral collaboration in the SAP.

 On April 5 and 6, 2022 was held the first national consultation meeting of stakeholders of the CCLME project in Cabo Verde. The workshop brought together representatives of public institutions, NGOs and organizations directly involved in the development and implementation of national policy on fisheries and environment, land management, tourism, universities and marine monitoring.

The workshop of the launching of the project "Towards the Sustainable Management of the Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME) - initial support to the implementation of the Strategic Action Program (PAS)" was held virtually by the zoom platform on 4 and 5 November 2021. Representatives of the 6 on 7 participating countries of the project (Morocco, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Cabo Verde), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Regional Coordination Unit (RCU) attended the meeting. A number of co-financing partners and other CCLME implementing partner organizations attended the meeting as observers.

Banjul – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries Water Resources and National Assembly Matters hosted a two-day Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME) National Consultancy Meeting on 14 and 15 April 2022. The consultancy brought together stakeholders from national institutions active in the fields of fisheries, environment, marine habitat protection and water quality.
