The fifth meeting of the Planning Group for the Coordination of Acoustic Surveys off Northwest Africa was held in Dakar, Senegal, from 29 to 30 October 2006. All of the local research vessels had carried out acoustic surveys since the 2005 meeting of the Planning group.

The fourth meeting of the Planning Group for the Coordination of Acoustic Surveys off Northwest Africa was held in Dakar, Senegal, from 27 to 29 October 2005. All of the local research vessels conducted acoustic surveys in 2005 and major improvements have been made in standardization of procedures and processing of data.

A regional workshop on ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF) for countries in the Guinea Current Large Marine Ecosystem (GCLME) area was held in Accra, Ghana, from 23 to 26 October 2007 together with the first Steering Committee meeting of the EAF-Nansen project “Strengthening the Knowledge Base for and Implementing an Ecosystem Approach to Marine Fisheries in Developing Countries (EAF Nansen GCP/INT/003/NOR)”.

The third meeting of the Planning Group for the Coordination of Acoustic Surveys off Northwest Africa was held in Dakar, Senegal, from 22 to 23 October 2004. The meeting was the third of its kind, following two meetings in Dakar, Senegal, from 26 to 28 October 2002 and from 28 to 29 October 2003.

This report gives a summary of the fisheries in Cte dIvoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin as well as an overview of the surveys undertaken in the sub-region (both national and sub-regional). The report also provides a summary of the results from the 1999 combined acoustic and bottom-trawl survey with the R/V DR. FRIDTJOF NANSEN in the Western Gulf of Guinea and a summary of the discussions from the pre-survey meeting concerning the results from the 1999 survey and the planning of the year 2000 survey.
