Description

Recognizing the complexity and the intertwined nature of climate change and the livestock sector development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse gases (GRA), and the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Center (NZAGRC) are implementing the project “Creating the enabling environment for enhanced climate ambition and climate action through institutional capacity building”. Costa Rica is one of the project's target countries with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) as a focal point. This workshop aims to strengthen climate action by improving the quantification and optimization of methane emissions and to support climate-smart livestock development in Costa Rica. It will bring together national livestock stakeholders from government and research institutes, and non-state actors. Participants will discuss solutions to mitigate methane in the context of livestock NAMA and identify climate finance opportunities and challenges for low-emission and climate resilient livestock in line with country-specific goals.
