The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism

Forest genetic resources

The webinars below provide a summary of the state of advancement in knowledge on how genetic diversity is important for restoration and how it can be managed and monitored through the restoration pathway. Genetic diversity ensures the adaptive potential to resist pest and disease outbreaks and to cope with climate change (including increased droughts and extreme weather events). Failure to take genetic diversity and quality into account in restoration has serious consequences, as it will undermine the growth and survival of trees, as well as the future productivity of tree crops and the ability of restored sites to support biodiversity.

Watch our webinars on forest genetic resources (FGR) to learn more on why they are vital to ensure resilient restoration.
