Big Data Platform for Smart Aquaculture
Step 6: Pilot design
With the stakeholder map, vision, and Data Management Plan in place, the platform is ready for piloting.
A well-designed pilot tests the platform under real conditions with a representative cross-section of users. It is the critical bridge between planning and full-scale deployment.
Select a diverse pilot group that includes small, medium, and large farms; at least one diagnostic laboratory; and at least one government agency.
Pilot sites must meet basic readiness criteria: an operational farm site, adequate pre-existing infrastructure (electricity, water, connectivity), accessible location, and a willingness to collaborate with external staff and care for installed equipment under a formal collaboration agreement.
The extremely fast development of IT hardware and software capabilities requires an agile approach to requirements analysis and platform engineering. Local preferences for IT platforms, market requirements, and environmental conditions specific to pathogen distribution all require flexibility in the development approach. In each country, requirements and local capabilities will differ, and the guidelines presented here are indicative of steps and actions to be taken.
