News

Through the German Ministry for Food and Agriculture-supported Towards Sustainable Bioeconomy Guidelines project, FAO helps countries in the development of sustainable and circular bioeconomy strategies and programmes. The project’s contribution includes a set of Aspirational Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Bioeconomy, as well as guiding tools to support decision-makers on: sustainability issues in bioeconomy strategies; success factors in local bioeconomy interventions; good bioeconomy practices and related policies; monitoring frameworks and sustainability indicators on bioeconomy; and tools to support countries’ and regions’ bioeconomies.

FAO’s approach focuses on five operational work areas: 1. Partnerships; 2. Normative and standard setting instruments; 3. Policy dialogue; 4. Capacity development; and 5. Advocacy and communication.

The latest brief on the Towards Sustainable Bioeconomy Guidelines project is now available in English, French and Spanish.
