General situation during July 2026
Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) fledging and mating started in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Summer surveys of hoppers and adults (on egg-laying sites) continued in most countries. In July, control operations covered 682 762 hectares (ha) in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.

General Situation during May 2015 Forecast until mid-July 2015 In May, Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress in all Central Asian countries, while hatching started in the Russian Federation; fledging and breeding were reported in Uzbekistan. No DMA was reported from Caucasian countries. Italian Locust (CIT) hopper development was in progress in all Caucasian and Central Asian (CCA) countries but Armenia.

General Situation during April 2015 Forecast until mid-June 2015 Cooler than usual and rainy weather conditions in all Caucasian and Central Asian countries delayed hatching and subsequent hopper development. Therefore Moroccan Locust (DMA) started from late March in Tajikistan -and probably in neighboring areas of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan- and in April in Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan –and probably in Kyrgyzstan. More than 64 000 ha were treated in April in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

General Situation during March 2015 Forecast until mid-May 2015 The locust situation remained calm in March throughout all countries of Caucasus and Central Asia due to cool weather conditions which delayed locust hatching. Therefore, no control operations were carried out so far. Moroccan Locust (DMA) hatching started in late March only in southern Uzbekistan and probably in the neighboring areas of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
