General situation during May 2026
Moroccan locust (DMA) hopper development was almost completed in Central Asia (CA); mass fledging and mating started, as well as egg-laying in the southern areas. DMA hatching was observed, followed by hopper development, in Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation. DMA situation in May was classified as a threat by all CA countries and as calm in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Italian locust (CIT) hatching continued in Kazakhstan and started in other affected Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries, followed by hopper development. The situation was classified as a threat in the Central Asian countries where it is present, and a calm in Caucasus and in the Russian Federation. Migratory locust (LMI) hatching started in Kazakhstan and in the Russian Federation.

General Situation during July 2010 Forecast until mid-September 2010 The situation was becoming calm in all CCA countries with locust life cycles about to be completed. Areas treated in July were less than 4% of those treated in June, i.e. a bit more than 50,000 hectares against DMA (185 000 ha in June) and less than 15,000 ha against CIT (1,150 million ha during the previous month). DMA egg-laying came to an end and adult numbers started declining.

General Situation during June 2010 Forecast until mid-August 2010 DMA immature and mature adults were present in all CCA countries that were already infested, and DMA life cycle completed in southern Central Asia. CIT hatching started in Kyrgyzstan hopper development continued in Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and fledging started in some places.

General Situation during May 2010 Forecast until mid-July 2010 DMA hopper development is coming to an end in southern CCA countries and treatments will decrease, monitoring of remaining adult populations should continue to identify egg-beds in view of the 2011 locust campaign in particular in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. CIT and LMI hatching and hopper development are ongoing and a significant increase of control operations is expected by the end of the forecast period.
