The Mountain Partnership is supported by a Secretariat which is hosted at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome. The Secretariat acts as a networking and liaison point for members, connecting institutions and activities in sustainable mountain development to ensure greater participation, coherence and impact. It also engages in raising awareness globally about the importance of mountains and in advocating for increased political attention to sustainable mountain development and the wellbeing of mountain people.
In particular, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat plays a facilitating role in helping members build and develop joint activities, promote closer collaboration, and achieve greater coherence and better results for sustainable development.
The Mountain Partnership Secretariat receives support from the governments of Italy, Switzerland, Andorra and Ireland, and FAO.
