Mara Expeditions Community Based Organization is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) branch of Mara Expeditions, a tour operator in Kenya. The firm advocates for sustainable tourism to enable local communities to appreciate and safeguard the ecosystems they live in. Mara interacts with local communities, introducing and raising awareness about sports-related touristic activities that community members can be a part of. Mara helps identify and develop athletic talents for participating in competitive running and provides information about increased regional employment opportunities through various sports initiatives. The firm aims at establishing a high-altitude mountain athletic academy. Mara also encourages communities’ and schools’ involvement in environmental programmes to conserve the Mount Kenya ecosystems, and to protect forests by introducing the use of biogas instead of firewood and charcoal.
