The Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), along with the Near East Plant Protection Organization (NEPPO), collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries in Tunisia to organize a regional workshop. 

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) launched today the “Enhancement of the efficient response of the decentralized agricultural departments in Jordan” project to boost the quality of the service provision as a part of the quality management of the agricultural sector in Jordan and improve the efficient response and service provision of the agricultural departments.

The United Arab Emirates has signed a key agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and prevent the imminent risk of famine. The future of our land faces critical challenges, with up to 40 percent of the world's land already degraded. Healthy land, crucial for providing 95 percent of our food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and protection from natural disasters, is disappearing at an alarming rate—equivalent to four football fields every second, or 100 million ha annually.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized a regional Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on the "SusaHamra App": a digital system for collecting and analyzing data on monitoring and surveillance of Red Palm Weevil (RPW) from June 3 to 5 in Muscat, Oman with the participation of specialists and officials from 7 Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, and Oman. Under the framework of the RPW eradication “GCP /RNE/012/MUL programme, a three-day workshop is organized by the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE), FAO's Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP), and in collaboration with Oman's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. 

Tunisia, a country with a rich agricultural heritage, is grappling with a range of sustainability challenges arising from ecological, socio-economic, and climatic pressures. In 2021, the unemployment rate surged to 18%, disproportionately affecting young people (40%) and women (22%).
