Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (LEAP)

Who we are

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership is a dynamic multistakeholder initiative committed to improving the environmental performance of livestock supply chains while ensuring their economic and social viability.

In a time when farmers, consumers and various livestock stakeholders are increasingly demanding transparent information on the environmental impacts and sustainability of livestock supply chains, FAO LEAP stands out for its commitment to reliability and excellence using science-based and globally harmonized metrics and methods. Despite the proliferation of environmental assessment methods, the absence of standardized and comparable indicators has hindered progress. FAO LEAP aims to shift the dialogue from methodological debates to actionable improvement measures.

The Partnership is founded on a voluntary and collaborative process between FAO and three main stakeholder groups:

  • governments
  • civil societies and non-governmental organizations
  • private sector
All Partners

What we do

The FAO LEAP Partnership develops comprehensive guidelines and methodologies to assess the environmental performance of livestock supply chains. The objective is to provide stakeholders with the tools and insights needed to shape evidence-based policy measures and business strategies, ultimately driving positive change within the livestock sector. The Partnership encourages dialogues and facilitates collaboration among diverse stakeholder groups, including governments, the private sector, academia, NGOs and civil society organizations.
