FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues

The FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment along with the WHO Core Assessment Group comprises the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR).

The FAO Panel of Experts is responsible for reviewing residue and analytical aspects of the pesticides under consideration (including data on their metabolism, fate in the environment and use patterns) and also for estimating the maximum levels of residues that might occur as a result of the use of pesticides according to good agricultural practices (GAP). Maximum residue levels and supervised trials median residue (STMR) values are estimated for commodities. The WHO Core Assessment Group is responsible for reviewing toxicological and related data in order to establish acceptable daily intakes (ADIs) and acute reference doses (ARfDs), where necessary.

The maximum residue levels are recommended to the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) for consideration to be adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) as standard for food and agricultural commodities moving in international trade.

Roster of Experts on Pesticide Residues

This roster consists of scientific experts on pesticide residues who have been selected  as the  members of the FAO Expert Panel on Pesticide Residues.

Members of the roster will be considered for attending the Joint Meetings on Pesticide Residues and for other activities relating to pesticide residues in food, but inclusion on the roster does not guarantee such participation.   The roster is dynamic. Experts are placed on it for an initial period of five years or until their terms on the Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues expire, and new experts are added on the basis of consideration of new applications.
