FLW results from inefficient and unsustainable agrifood systems and has negative impacts on the environment, economy, and food security and nutrition. Almost 15 percent of the food produced in NENA is lost between from post-harvest until retail, and between 75 and 163 kilograms per capita is wasted at retail and household levels each year.
This network is a space for exchanging knowledge and experience, advocacy and awareness-raising, and engaging with different stakeholders to help amplify FLW reduction efforts in NENA countries who share common agrifood system characteristics and challenges related to FLW.
Action areas
Policy and strategy
Coordinated policies across the agrifood system to facilitate stakeholder coordination, responsible investment, and strategic approaches to reduce FLW and support the transition to a circular bioeconomy.
Good practices
Technological, managerial, and business practices at all stages of the value chain, as well as greater awareness and food waste education among consumers, to encourage actions that prevent and reduce FLW.
Data and measurement
Tools and methods, estimates and data, and information about FLW causes, solutions, and quantifying the costs and benefits of FLW reduction measures to inform policy and investments.
