This preliminary report examines the status of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, particularly indicators 6.4.1 and 6.4.2, within Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs). It assesses the significance of these indicators in the reporting process at both national and subregional levels. The goal is to enhance the VNR process, improve reporting on SDG 6, and strengthen accountability. The report provides context on SDG 6, outlines the methodology for assessing countries' reporting performance, offers inter-regional comparisons, and evaluates gender linkages. It concludes with targeted recommendations for improving the VNR process and reporting outcomes.

Thereafter, the report presents the inter-regional comparisons based on an established scoring system and evaluates gender linkages. Finally, the study closes with recommendations and conclusions. Although the analysis has been carried out at country level, the results are only presented at global and regional level.
