Nuclear science and innovations for a more resilient and equitable food future 

As countries accelerate their transitions to greener, more sustainable agrifood systems, science and innovation are becoming indispensable drivers of change. The global agrifood sector faces unprecedented challenges: climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and the need to feed a growing population sustainably. Addressing these challenges requires solutions that are science-based, scalable, and environmentally responsible. 

For over six decades, the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture has been at the forefront of providing Member Countries with cutting-edge nuclear science and biotechnology solutions. These solutions have helped countries enhance food security, improve climate resilience, and promote environmental sustainability. 

Wood – ancient material, future solution;

Join us for this fascinating display showcasing the extraordinary versatility of sustainable wood, including an interactive session from 10:00-10:30 where you'll discover how wood is reshaping our world - from reusable food packaging and sustainable clothing to modern high-rise buildings and even biodegradable wooden satellites..

Cultifutura: Growing Minds, Cultivating Change 

At Cultifutura’s booth, visitors will explore the highly technological world of vertical farming through hands-on experiences with CultEvo, an advanced micro-vertical farm that grows herbs, salads, and microgreens. This cutting-edge installation combines innovation and sustainability, offering a sensory journey—touching, smelling, and harvesting plants—to reconnect people, especially urban dwellers, with nature and food origins. We believe that by creating awareness about agriculture, it’s possible to change the way people interact with food, fostering a more mindful generation. Activities include discovering ancient herbs, taking part in interactive quizzes, and exploring Cultifutura’s educational projects in schools. Visitors will also be invited to share their ideas for the future of sustainable agriculture through a collective “word cloud,” which will be displayed on a screen and update in real time as new words are added. Through these activities, it will be possible to learn more about new technologies that can positively contribute to improving agrifood systems. 

Promoting innovation and sustainable development of the agri-food system through multi-cooperation 

The exhibition will showcase the cooperation outcomes of ZJU and FAO under the Memorandum of Understanding, as well as ZJU and other organizations/units. It will mainly focus on two aspects - one is publications, and the other is the Digital Agriculture Innovation Bootcamp. 

The Digital Agriculture Innovation Bootcamp (DAIB) is a follow up accelerator project for GAC winners, supporting them to enhance the digital, entrepreneurial, and innovative capability and better develop their innovative solutions through workshops and study tour (field trip). FAO and ZJU have successfully co-organized the DAIB for two editions, the 2022 edition and 2025 edition.
