FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva opens the Committee on Agriculture (COAG). COAG will discuss issues such as family farming, sustainable agriculture, food safety, sustainable livestock production, the global soil partnership and agricultural heritage systems. The committee is one of FAO's most important governing bodies. President Danilo Medina of the Dominican Republic gives the keynote address to delegates from around the world. The president speaks about his country's experiences as it tries to empower smallscale farmers.
