Agroecology for food security and nutrition

Following the International Symposium on Agroecology for Food Security and Nutrition held in Rome in 2014, and the three regional seminars organized by FAO in 2015, the Permanent Representations of Brazil, China, Ivory Coast, France, Hungary, Japan, Senegal, Switzerland, and Venezuela, - jointly collaborating as “Friends of Agroecology”-, wish to invite Permanent Representations to an update on agroecology for food security and nutrition. Two FAO Members will share national perspectives, scientists will present different features of agroecological systems, FAO representatives will summarize recent and forthcoming activities, practitioners will share practical experiences, and participants will be invited to engage in an open discussion.

The event will provide an opportunity to:

  • Share the outcomes of the three regional seminars on agroecology for food security and nutrition organized by FAO in Africa, Asia and the Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean throughout 2015.
  • Provide updates on upcoming regional seminars and related activities.
  • Exchange national and regional experiences related to agroecological practices and their potential for sustainable food and agricultural systems;
  • Enable understanding of agroecology through practical experiences.
