Bio of Mr Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou 

With an Engineering Major from Guangdong Ocean University, Mr Wen Guohui first entered the workforce in the Administration Office of Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co. Ltd in 1984.

After gaining his postgraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from South China University of Technology, Mr Wen entered the civil service in the Guangdong Commission of Economy in in 1990, where he worked on local enterprise development and economic policy making, eventually becoming Deputy Director General of the Commission.

Mr Wen was appointed Director General of the Department of Information Industry of Guangdong in 2007, and that of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Guangdong People’s Government in 2009. He became CPC Party Secretary of Guangdong’s Shanwei Municipality in 2013.

Mr Wen was Vice Governor of Guangdong Province in 2015, and was responsible for Religious Affairs, Human Resources and Social Welfare, Health, Food and Drug Safety, and Women and Children's Affairs.

In February 2016, Mr Wen Guohui was elected as Mayor of Guangzhou during the 6th Session of the 14th Guangzhou People’s Congress.
