The protracted humanitarian crisis is adversely impacting livelihoods and agricultural production in Yemen, posing a major threat to the food security of the country.

Disruption to livelihoods due to local conflict, global price volatility of commodities and inflation are continuously putting downward pressure on the purchasing power of the poorest, increasing their socio-economic vulnerability.
Significant crop damages inflicted by infestations of desert locust, tomato borer (Tuta Absoluta) and Red Palm Weevil, in addition to presence of transboundary animal diseases and zoonoses (Brucellosis), are reducing the smalholders’ production capacity  and further eroding their household resilience.

NERC-32 will bring Member Countries together to eye the impact of the Yemen protracted crisis on food and nutrition security during a side event on food security in the Near East and north Africa.

Member Countries will be invited to examine the crucial role of agriculture in creating sustainable livelihoods and increasing the resilience of livelihood systems to threats and crises.

The event will be held on Thursday, 27 February from 3 to 4 pm.
