Working together to
End Hunger, Food Insecurity, and Malnutrition by 2030

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was endorsed by the UN General Assembly in New York last September. It includes 17 Goals and 169 targets covering three dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental), demonstrating the scale and ambition of this new Agenda. FAO’s Strategic Framework is already closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and FAO is linked to 14 of the 17 SDGs.

The Side Event aims at exchanging experiences and lessons learnt during the process by which the Asia and the Pacific region as a whole achieved the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 1C hunger target of halving the proportion of people who suffer from hunger between 1990 and 2015. It is also intended to demonstrate how FAO is supporting member countries through the implementation of the Strategic Framework, including Regional Initiatives and Country Programming Frameworks as vehicles for intensifying partnerships with countries and regional and international organizations in order to achieve the SDGs, in particular Goal 2: to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
