Regional event: Fostering youth, women and science-led innovations for climate action in agrifood systems in Africa
Wednesday 11th October 2023
11am – 1pm GMT
As part of the FAO Science & Innovation Forum 2023, the FAO Regional Office for Africa is hosting a regional online event focusing on youth, women and science-led innovations for climate action in agrifood systems in Africa.
Climate change poses significant challenges to African agriculture and rural communities. The continent has high dependence on rain-fed agriculture, weak adaptive capacity, and limited infrastructure and investments to respond to the impacts of a changing climate.
Join us for this regional online event which aims to share challenges, solutions and good practices on innovations for climate action, with a view to help identify critical collaboration pathways for improvement and scaling-up of effective solutions for agrifood systems transformation in Africa.
Speakers include:
FAO Chief Scientist Ismahane Elouafi (Opening Remarks)
Dr Fatima Denton, Regional Director, UN University, Institute for Natural Resources in Africa
Dr Simeon Ehui, Regional Director, CGIAR, and Director General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
Dr Oluwole Fatunbi, Lead Scientist for Innovation and Partnerships, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA)
