Regional Workshop on GoTFish: Promoting the Blue Economy of the Gulf of Thailand through the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries

14/03/2019-15/03/2019 Bangkok, Thailand

The overall goal of this work is to support fisheries departments of the Gulf of Thailand countries (Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam) to participate in the prioritization processes for the Global Environmental Facility 7th Replenishment period (GEF-7) in order to address the challenges faced by the fisheries sector in the region, particularly in the Gulf of Thailand (such as, inadequate fisheries management, high fishing pressure, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, as well as competition with other users of the coasts and the sea). Based on national-level discussions, an initial project proposal has been developed and will be reviewed during this regional workshop. The draft project framework will be circulated before the workshop and its focus will be on working with partners and stakeholders across the region to strengthen collaboration and cooperation to achieve the sustainable management of GoT fisheries.
