The third FAO High-Level Policy Learning Programme (HLPLP): “Addressing long-term development challenges: from short-lived interventions to lasting achievements” a two-week programme at FAO Headquarters in Rome, will explore emerging issues in agriculture, fishery, forestry, rural and sustainable development, long-term challenges, perspective scenarios and policy options for the future, with a focus on the latest public policy thinking and practice, at all levels.
Outline
The HLPLP comprises four thematic modules:
Module 1: Lessons and Policy Implications from Old and New Thinking and Practice on Development;
Module 2: Governance and Development;
Module 3: Natural Resources and Development;
Module 4: Long-term Perspectives and Policies for Sustainable Development.
Week 1: will address issues, concepts and policy options.
Week 2: will focus on approaches, methods and tools for policy making. Participants
High-level decision-makers, senior policy analysts, experts from various organizations and several FAO Representatives from Angola, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Brazil, Egypt, Mauritius, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, South Korea, Sweden and Vietnam, will come together with FAO policy experts to share their views and experiences. The HLPLP provides also three events open to all FAO staff: Monday 7 November : Iran Room:
11.00 – 12.30 : Key note speech by Jan Vandemoortele on “The Quest for Meaning and Understanding of Development Today”.
14.00 – 15.30: Expert panel discussion on Key development issues.
15.45 – 17.15 : Presentation of country experiences followed by discussions [Bhutan, Brazil, South Korea].
Tuesday 8 November : Iran Room
14.00 – 15.30 Guest speaker, Peter Timmer on “Managing Food Price Volatility: Issues at the micro, macro, and global levels”.
