The Fortifying Equality and Economic and Diversification (FEED) project adopted a unique gender-sensitive approach, where agriculture and economic development were closely linked to gender equality. The FEED project demonstrates that improved nutrition outcomes are possible when women/girls exercise their own agency over strategic life decisions, have access to/control over resources, and experience the informal and formal structures around them as enabling their opportunity to improve their rights to good nutrition. Considering the deeply rooted discriminatory gender norms that restrict equitable participation in food production and consumption and market activity in South Sudan, we feel our approach provides a practical and innovate approach to ensuring equitable access to nutritious food.
