Morocco suspends wheat import duty

07/01/2020,

On 24 December 2019, the Government announced the suspension of the 35 percent import duty on soft wheat, set in September last year (FPMA Food Policies), from 2 January to 30 April 2020. Import duties are periodically revised depending on the supply/demand situation in the country. The 2019 wheat harvest was estimated at over 60 percent below the previous year’s abundant harvest and over 30 percent below average. The reduced duty aims to ensure regular supplies of good quality wheat from the international market and prevent price hikes of non-subsidized wheat products.
