FAO Director-General, Jacques Diouf: "45 days and 100 million dollars to control the locust outbreaks in northwest Africa". The desert locust crisis in Mauritania, Senegal, Mali and Niger is expected to deteriorate over the next few weeks, and there is a serious risk that northwest Africa will be reinvaded by swarms from October onwards, FAO warned today.
