The FAO through the Junior Farmer Field and Life Schools is committed to assisting the rural 12 to 18 year-olds, AIDS orphans and other vulnerable youth and those adults leaving and working with them, in acquiring the knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society.

Dr. Gabriel Rugalema is in charge of the HIV/AIDS and Food Security programme in FAO. He explains:
