FAO in Emergencies – Highlights in 2017
In 2017, conflicts, droughts, floods, mudslides, hurricanes, wildfires, animal and plant pests and diseases threatened food security across the globe. FAO’s emergencies programme played a crucial role in supporting governments and partners to prepare for, prevent and respond to these shocks; reaching millions with life-saving agricultural support in 55 crisis-affected countries. Rapid and efficient response to agricultural threats and emergencies saves lives, promotes recovery and reduces the gap between dependency on food assistance and self-reliance.
