Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos highlights rural development’s contribution to peace

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos visited FAO on Thursday, 15 December 2016, meeting with FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and Neven Mimica, European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development. The President also spoke to representatives of FAO member countries.

 

President Santos received the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to ending Colombia’s 50-year-long civil war.

 

FAO and the European Commission are key supporters of rural development plans designed to foster rural and national peace in the wake of the conflict.
