Universidade Federal de Roraima
Brazil
The Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) is a federal public foundation, located in the North region of Brazil, was authorized by Law No. 7,364, of September 12, 1985, and created by Decree-Law No. 98,127, of September 8, 1989, whose inaugural class took place on March 19, 1990. UFRR is linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC), which approved the first Statute of the University, through Ordinance No. 578, of October 24, 1989, published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on December 4, 1989. UFRR is based on the constitutional principle of the inseparability of teaching, research and extension, and has didactic-scientific, administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy.
The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRR) was the first Brazilian attempt to create a federal university without the availability of pre-existing institutions that could be incorporated into the university structure. As the first higher education institution in the state of Roraima, its establishment required technical and scientific training, which until 1989 was only available to members of the Roraima community who could afford to study in other Brazilian states.
In March 1990, UFRR's academic and administrative activities began in an area provided by the State Government, which today constitutes the Paricarana Campus , consisting of a semi-finished building, a building under construction and a third building in the initial stage of construction, which are now called Block I, Block II and Block III, respectively.
