Background
Agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean are essential to the regional economy, rural employment, and food security. However, they face persistent challenges: rising food prices, extreme weather events, environmental degradation, inequalities, and gaps in access to finance and innovation.
Closing the gap between supply and demand for resources depends not only on having more financing, but also on connecting it better. According to the Seville Commitment, signed within the framework of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (UN, 2025), the world needs $4 trillion annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and in Latin America and the Caribbean, the financing gap for agrifood systems exceeds $160 billion per year (Climate Policy Initiative, 2025).
In this context, FAO Transforma presents its 2025 edition: "Unlocking Finance for Agrifood Systems Transformation." This initiative seeks to promote innovative financial solutions that accelerate the transformation of agrifood systems in the region.
