Breadfruit and Breadnut Orchard Establishment and Management
Breadfruit and breadnut are not native to the Caribbean. The seeded breadnut, which is
considered as an ancestor of breadfruit, originated in Papua New Guinea in the Western Pacific region. Thousands of years ago, as early peoples moved eastwards across the Pacific with breadnut, the seedless breadfruit developed and became predominant in in the eastern part of the South Pacific. Most of the breadfruit in the Caribbean came from this region.
