The Collection of legal briefs for eradicating hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean: a tool for parliamentarians is a compilation that brings together decades of valuable legal expertise through ten guidance notes individually published from 2020 to 2022, by FAO through its Development Law Sevice in collaboration with Spain-FAO Alliance “the Hunger-Free Latin America and the Caribbean Initiative Project”. The notes address key themes directly linked to the human right to adequate food and provide concise, relevant information on international and regional legal frameworks, together with comparative-law examples and good practices from across the region. This publication constitutes an essential tool for parliamentary work and for legislative decision-makers committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
Each guidance note proposes practical legislative recommendations to support the transformation of agrifood systems so they become more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable. Aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2031, the guidance notes promote the right to adequate food through constitutions, framework and sectorial laws. Covering issues such as school feeding, food loss and waste, rural women’s rights and rural poverty, the collection was developed in the context of the X Forum of the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Second Global Parliamentary Summit on Hunger and Malnutrition (2023), underlining the role of parliamentary action and multi-stakeholder to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
