Presenting the FAO Strategic Framework at the University of Antwerp

Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels Raschad Al-Khafaji was invited by the University of Antwerp to give a presentation on the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-2031 and the work of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels. The audience included teaching staff from the university, as well as delegates from the National and Provincial Treasury in Pretoria. The South African delegates had a particular interest in food security issues.

Al-Khafaji told the gathering that academia and research would be critical to successful implementation of the new Strategic Framework and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. He underscored the importance of the strong relationship of the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels with academic institutions in Belgium and highlighted the need to engage more effectively with all actors at all levels – from international to regional to national – in order to address current global challenges.

The group was hosted in Antwerp in the framework of the Public Finance Program, which is run jointly by the university and the South African National Treasury in Pretoria.
