Building bridges-Fostering partnerships: sharing FAO's expertise and knowledge in Brussels

Every month, our Liaison Office coordinates visits by FAO experts from around the world to Brussels and supports their interactions and contributions at events held by our partners. The June missions included:

A visit by Coordinator of the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme, Hubert Boulet, traveled to Brussels for a technical meeting with counterparts at the European Commission.

Cortney Price, FAO’s Behavioral Science expert from FAO's Office of Innovation, participated at a panel debate in the One Health Conference - Collaborating to face future One Health challenges in Europe, held in Brussels.  You can read more about FAO’s Office of Innovation here and on One Health here.

Information Systems Analyst at FAO’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, Anton Ellenbroek traveled to Brussels to participate in the Digital Ocean forum 2023. The Forum brought together experts, stakeholders, policymakers and interested citizens in the co-design and co-creation of the European Digital Twin of the Ocean.  You can read more about FAO’s work on fisheries and aquaculture here.

From the FAO Subregional Office of Southern Africa, we had the Agricultural Officer Ivy Saunyama, deliver a speech during the meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment at the 43rd Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. She talked about reducing pesticide reliance and the risks for safe and affordable food production and sustainable and resilient agrifood systems. Sven Walter, FAO Senior Forestry Officer participated in a conference held in Brussels dedicated to bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. The role of FAO as leader and coordinator for the  global action on the transition towards a sustainable and circular bioeconomy was highlighted in Walter’s intervention.
