Driving Sustainability: Innovation and Digitalization for Climate Action in Agrifood Systems

27/03/2024
27 March 2024 – Vincent Martin, Director of FAO’s Office of Innovation, visited Brussels to present FAO’s work on innovation at the Council Working Party on International Food and Agricultural Questions (AGRIFAO) and to interact with key stakeholders in the European Commission.

Martin had a fruitful exchange with the delegates emphasizing science and innovation as a central driving force for achieving a world free from hunger and malnutrition. He particularly highlighted the role of innovations in technological, institutional, social, policy and financial dimensions throughout agrifood systems as accelerators for the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-2031 and the FAO Programme Priority Areas (PPAs) under the Four Betters: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment and a Better Life for all, leaving no one behind.

FAO first ever Science and Innovation Strategy was endorsed by its Members in 2022. It encapsulates a comprehensive framework aimed at revolutionizing agrifood systems through innovation, highlighted by the creation of detailed processes and a unified global innovation architecture, underpinned by strategic workstreams.
