FAO Nutrition Director intervenes at European Parliament Intergroup Event on Sustainable Diets

Lynnette Marie Neufeld, Director of FAO's Food and Nutrition Division, participated virtually in a panel discussion on “How to make sustainable diets the norm”, organized by the European Parliament Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development, and hosted by MEP Juozas Olekas and MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri.  

During her intervention, Neufeld addressed the need to shift to more sustainable diets and agrifood systems, underscoring the intricate nature of sustainability in diets, which extends beyond nutrition and environmental concerns to encompass economic and socio-cultural dimensions. She also emphasized that sustainable diets cannot be achieved without sustainable production and without educating consumers on what constitutes a healthy diet.
