Gender-transformative approaches are cost-effective in transforming agrifood systems. Closing the gender gap in land tenure has benefits on employment, investment, natural resource management, access to services, resilience, and food security. This is one of the main takeaways of the report “Status of Women in Agrifood Systems” presented by FAO Senior Gender Officer Clara Park at a working session of the Belgian Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (PASA).

Alexandre Verhoeven,  Desk Officer for FAO at the Directorate General of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGD) offered insights about the collaboration between FAO and Belgium. The FAO Liaison Office Brussels presented its work  with a wide range of Belgian stakeholders. The presentation also alluded to FAO’s strong partnership with the rotating Presidencies of the Council of the EU, in light of Belgium taking up this role in January 2024.

The Belgian Platform for Agriculture and Food Security (PASA) is a meeting place for NGOs, universities, government institutions, and other partners that share information and learn together about challenges related to sustainable agrifood systems, food security and nutrition in the South.
