Global Perspectives: FAO participation in the European Climate Stocktake

27/10/2023

Zitouni Ould-Dada, Deputy Director of the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Environment, participated in the European Climate Stocktake, an event aimed at evaluating progress made towards achieving the Paris Agreement objectives within the EU and beyond.

Participants shared their perspectives on the essential elements of an ambitious and equitable transition. Ould-Dada underscored the pivotal role of agrifood system solutions in advancing climate action.

Within the panel discussion that took place, Ould-Dada emphasized the contribution of agrifood system solutions towards reducing emissions, adapting to climate change, building resilience and enhancing global food security.

Stressing the urgency of systemic change, Ould-Dada called for agrifood solutions that effectively address the interconnected challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, while also ensuring access to nutritious food worldwide. The discussions were a precursor to the Global Stocktake exercise taking place at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) hosted by the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.
