Support for Target 2 implementation, monitoring and reporting
The GBF Target 2 Help Desk connects countries with technical guidance, data support, learning resources and regional expertise.
Support is intended for CBD national focal points, government technical teams, national institutions, regional and subregional support centres, Indigenous Peoples and local community organizations, and partners contributing to country-led Target 2 implementation and reporting.
(For formal questions about the Convention, national reports or CBD procedures, contact the appropriate CBD Secretariat channel or national focal point)
Contact the Help Desk
Describe your question, country or region, reporting context and the type of support required and contact us at [email protected]. The request will be routed to the most appropriate technical or regional support channel.
What support is available?
What the Help Desk does not replace
Formal communication with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
National approval, validation or submission of data and national reports.
Country decisions on policies, targets, methods or institutional responsibilities.
A formal certification that a restoration initiative is effective or eligible for reporting.
A funding mechanism for restoration projects, unless a specific opportunity is announced separately.
Subregional support
The CBD technical and scientific cooperation mechanism operates through a network of regional and subregional technical and scientific cooperation support centres (TSCCs), coordinated by a global coordination entity hosted by the CBD Secretariat. The centres facilitate demand-driven cooperation and help countries access relevant knowledge, science, technology, innovation and capacity support.
For Target 2, selected centres work with the CBD Secretariat, FAO and Road Map partners to provide technical backstopping, knowledge management, regional learning and support for restoration monitoring and reporting. Regional support can help adapt global guidance to local ecosystems, institutions, languages and data realities.
Role of TSCCs in Target 2 support
- Identify country needs and connect national teams with appropriate expertise.
- Provide technical backstopping on monitoring, data and reporting.
- Organize regional and subregional dialogues, workshops and peer exchange.
- Share regionally relevant methods, examples and learning materials.
- Support coordination among national focal points, technical agencies and partners.
- Feed regional experience and country needs into the Target 2 Road Map and global guidance processes.
Regional capacity support for reporting
In February 2025, ten support centres were selected through a call for expressions of interest to deliver regional capacity support under the Target 2 Road Map. Supported by the United Kingdom through the Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Nature Restoration (AIM4NatuRe) initiative and by the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI), funded by the Korea Forest Service, the programme strengthens technical backstopping and knowledge management for countries preparing Target 2 information.
- Asia and the Pacific (Bangkok, Thailand — 2–5 September 2025): Dialogue on biodiversity monitoring and reporting, with a focus on ecosystem restoration and seventh national reports.
- Latin America (Bogotá, Colombia — 17–20 November 2025): Regional dialogue on Target 2 monitoring and reporting for Latin American countries.
- Africa (Nairobi, Kenya — 27–30 January 2026): Subregional workshop on biodiversity monitoring and reporting in relation to Target 2.
Further regional activities are foreseen in 2027 and 2028 to contribute to preparation of eighth national reports. Completed workshop materials and future opportunities should be presented through dated event or training cards rather than embedded permanently in the main page text.
