The escalating conflict in Lebanon is exacerbating  the vulnerabilities of agriculture-dependent communities and deepening an already critical food security crisis. Even before this recent escalation, Lebanon was grappling with the impacts of multiple crises, including a severe economic downturn, the Beirut Port explosion and a protracted refugee crisis. Rural communities, already disproportionately affected by poverty, are now grappling with damaged farmlands, limited agricultural inputs, feed shortages and disrupted agrifood markets. Many cannot sustain their livelihoods and are increasingly resorting to negative coping mechanisms. In support of national efforts, FAO is scaling up its emergency and resilience assistance across the country to protect rural livelihoods, enhance self-reliance and reduce aid dependency. Additionally, FAO provides evidence-based analyses to support the humanitarian community in addressing the impact of the crisis on food security and agriculture.
