Ethiopia

FAO Ethiopia comprises a specialized team at the Head Office in Addis Ababa and 12 regional states that provide technical advice and support to FAO programmes and projects, with strong support from the leadership, logistics and procurement, finance and administration, among others.

As a global intergovernmental organization, FAO’s multidisciplinary professional experts in every discipline of agriculture have the capacity needed to provide support to the host country. FAO Ethiopia is therefore entrusted with the responsibility of providing pertinent and timely responses to demands for its services and inputs.

FAO Representative ad Interim

Mr. Orlando Sosa is a senior agricultural development specialist with over three decades of international experience strengthening plant health, crop production, and agrifood systems resilience. A national of Belize, he has served in progressively senior technical, strategic, and leadership roles within the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), supporting countries and partners in modernizing regulatory frameworks, improving market access, and enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience.

He currently serves as ad interim FAO Representative in Ethiopia, providing overall leadership of FAO’s programme and operations and maintaining strong engagement with government counterparts, development partners, and the UN Country Team. In parallel, he continues to serve as Agriculture Officer (Crop Production) at FAO’s Subregional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE) in Addis Ababa, providing technical leadership on sustainable crop production, diversification, and resilience, including programme formulation, technical backstopping, and resource mobilization aligned with AU and IGAD priorities.

Mr. Sosa holds an MSc in Entomology and Crop Protection and is fluent in English and Spanish.
