The NGO Je Mange Santé in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is planning a series of World Food Safety Day events over a 2-week period starting on 27 May. The organization is aiming to promote food standards and food safety for and within families that experience different forms of malnutrition and food-related diseases.

Between Saturday 27 May and 3 June, in the city of Goma interviews will be carried out with people involved in food safety. These will go towards a report on food safety in the city of Goma. On Saturday, 3 June in Goma there will be a jogging, walking and physical exercise event and on Wednesday, 7 June, Je Mange Santé will hold a Health Nutrition Center Open Day with the World Food Safety Day theme, “food standards save lives”. On Saturday, 10 June an Un Jour Nouveau (A New Day) Conference on food safety will take place with the theme of “The challenges of food safety in agribusiness”.

In addition to promoting food safety among a general public, specific objectives of these events include raising awareness and promoting healthy agriculture among urban and rural producers. The NGO also aims to raise awareness among entrepreneurs and agribusiness actors on issues related to food safety. They will highlight the importance of healthy eating practices within households and set up an exchange and networking platform for all health, nutrition and agribusiness actors in the country.

Je Mange Santé is a group of young doctors, nutritionists, entrepreneurs, students, specialists, learners and volunteers who have joined together to “help improve the health and nutrition of Congolese, African and global families”.
