Ministry of Commerce and Industries and Technological University of Panama to hold hybrid World Food Safety Day event

The Technological University of Panama (La Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, UTP Panama) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, will hold a conference for World Food Safety Day entitled “Food standards save lives”.

Speakers will talk about food safety and healthy eating, and other topics related to the celebration of World Food Safety Day, with the assistance of competent authorities, academic members, national industry, and students. The objective of this activity is to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, the tourism and sustainable development. It will highlight the need for sustainable production systems to guarantee the health of people, the planet and the economy in the long term. It is important to recognize that the health of people, animals and the environment are interrelated and any adverse safety incident can have a global impact on public health, trade and the economy.

The panel of guests for this hybrid event includes Dr Damarys Cortes, UTP Panama, Dr Carmen de Solis, Panama University, Dr Celestina Delgado from the Ministry of Health and Dr Bethy Cruzado from the Movement for Healthy Nutrition.

In addition, there will be contributions from experts from the Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition Authority (Autoridad de Protección al Consumidor y Defensa de la Competencia,  ACODECO), the Ministry of Health (MINSA), the National Association of Poultry Farmers of Panama (Asociación Nacional de Avicultores de Panamà, ANAVIP), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Chamber of Commerce.

The event will take place at the UTP Panama Auditorium and will be streamed on the Ministry of Commerce and Industries MICIPMA and UTPPanama YouTube Channels.
