How can FAO better support countries in addressing governance of agrifood systems transformation to make them more sustainable, inclusive and resilient?
This call for submissions is being organized jointly by the Governance and Policy Support Unit, the Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division, the Development Law Service, and the Office of SDGs of FAO to engage various stakeholders and gather examples of governance-related measures and interventions with transformative impact for agrifood systems. The results emerging from this call will contribute to informing FAO’s work with governments and other stakeholders related to policy, law, and governance for more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.

Core food and agricultural indicators for measuring the private sector’s contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals
FAO is developing guidance on how to measure the contribution of food- and agriculture private actors to the achievement of the SDGs in a consistent manner and in alignment with countries’ needs on monitoring the attainment of the SDG agenda. With this online consultation, the Office of the Chief Statistician of FAO aims to gather feedback on the draft indicators and guideline that have been developed in this context.

Inclusive public school food procurement to improve schoolchildren nutrition
Public School Food Procurement can be an effective tool for improving the nutrition of schoolchildren and to integrate local producers into school food programmes. The aim of this discussion is to exchange experiences and lessons learned among experts of the region, as well as to identify good practices, challenges and barriers to an effective public school food procurement.

FAO Private Sector Consultation
FAO is developing a new strategy for engagement with the private sector. To ensure that the strategy is fit for purpose, FAO is seeking inputs from the private sector. To do so, FAO is hosting a series virtual meetings and a 3-part online consultation during the period 2 to 24 July 2020 to discuss how FAO and the private sector can work together in accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals.

Webinar: Promoting Collaborative Research for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems for Achieving Agenda 2030
FAO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2018 with the Italian Research Institutions: the National Research Council (CNR); the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA); the National Agency for New Technologies, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA); and the Italian Institute for Environmental Research and Protection (ISPRA). The overarching objective of the cooperation between FAO and CNR, CREA, ENEA and ISPRA is the promotion of sustainability at large in the context of joint efforts for achieving Agenda 2030.
This cooperation also promoted the secondment of staff and researchers from the developing countries to work with Italian Research Institutes. As part of the joint work plan, there were number of activities successfully completed including the research work of the visiting scientists to ENEA from Burkina Faso, Republic of the Congo and Cameroon. To promote communication initiatives aimed at enhancing the impact and visibility of the activities undertaken in the context of MoU, FAO’s Research and Extension Unit (AGDR) and the National Agency for New Technologies, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) are jointly organizing a webinar on “Promoting collaborative research for sustainable agri-food systems for achieving Agenda 2030”.
This webinar will focus on the results of the research work carried out by the visiting scientists from Africa to ENEA in the field of microbiome application for sustainable agri-food systems.
The webinar will be an opportunity for all partners of the MoU to briefly share their reflections and to promote interactive discussion on the topics of presentations.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement presents Africa with a unique opportunity to unleash its economic potential for inclusive growth and sustainable development. For it to be conducive to food security and improved nutrition it is widely agreed that AfCFTA will have to be supported with accompanying measures and policies. This online discussion aims at opening an exchange of ideas, good practices and lessons learned on the challenges and prospects to the implementation of the AfCFTA in the agricultural sector.
