Introduction aux systèmes de sauvegardes REDD+ dans le contexte de la République du Congo ​

This webinar in French was a collaboration between FAO, UNEP, and the Ministère de l’Économie Forestière and took place in Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo.

Target audience: Government officials, technical experts, and stakeholders in the forestry, agriculture, and climate finance sectors in the Republic of Congo. About 30 participants attended including approximately 6 women.

Objective: This session aimed to provide participants with an overview of safeguard systems and requirements within the framework of the national REDD+ program and in view of the country's objective of seeking climate finance under ART TREES.

Topics covered:
  1. Introduction to the Cancun safeguards, the safeguard system within the national REDD+ program, and the requirements of the ART-TREES standard
  2. Presentation of tools to support the development of safeguards systems and their implementation. Tools included UN-REDD tools for gender mainstreaming and monitoring
  3. Discussion of progress on safeguards systems in the Republic of Congo and priority gaps to be addressed
Expected outcomes:
  • Improved understanding of safeguards and their relevance to Congo
  • Identification of priority actions for preparation and implementation
  • Capacity building to access climate finance and advance national climate ambitions
