Water Harvesting and Agroforestry

About the event

FAO in collaboration of the University of Florence (UNIFI) organized a hybrid field demonstration on the theme “Water harvesting and agroforestry” to illustrate the employment of water harvesting to boost irrigated agriculture in dry areas and promote food security.

The event presented the potentiality of water harvesting in a scenario characterized by increasing water scarcity due to the negative effects of climate change. Drawing from the experience of “La Scoscesa”, a farming and agroforestry system in a water scarce region of Tuscany (Italy), and through live sessions from the field, the event reviewed the role of terracing for water harvesting in arid areas and the contribution of water harvesting to the enhancement of agri-food systems under changing climatic conditions.
