Online administered course n. 5 – Renewable Energy for Irrigation

In the framework of the FAO Building Forward Better Initiative, the Land and Water Division is organizing an online administered course on Renewable Energy for Irrigation.
The training will present an overview on the application of renewable sources of energy to irrigation, and provide in-depth knowledge on solar energy applications in the agricultural sector presenting both theoretical and practical applications.
The training will cover the following topics:
- The farm irrigation systems and their complexities;
- Fundamentals and essentials of solar-powered irrigation systems (SPISs);
- SPISs requirements, design considerations, operation and maintenance;
- Solar powered irrigation – Case studies from Egypt, Jordan and Uganda;
- Financial aspects of SPISs.
The training, organized by FAO in collaboration with the American University of Cairo, TU Delft University, Rabail Technologies, Lorentz GmbH and FuturePump, is provided in English with live interpreting in French.
