Building Forward Better

Against all odds. The winding path from multidimensional fragility to drought resilience in drylands

14/05/2022

At the 15th Conference of Parties (CoP) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Building Forward Better Initiative organized a side event to address the fragility of drought-prone drylands.

The first part of the session explored the challenges of such contexts from multiple dimensions, including the social, economic and environmental perspectives, through a series of technical presentations. The second segment rolled out an open dialogue among a range of stakeholders to identify the potential of drought-affected drylands and foster the elaboration of a roadmap to resilience.

The event, co-organized with the German Development Institute (DIE) was part of the Building Forward Better program of activities and saw the participation of different partners, including the Imperial College of London, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), a number of regional institutions and representatives from the private sector.
